This is only an auxiliary and selected overview of glazes and clays.
Each product behaves differently, so we recommend buying a smaller quantity and trying everything. You can find the entire range on our website, where you can buy it through the e-shop, or you can visit us in our stone shop in Úvaly near Prague.

What is engobe?
Engobe is colored clay. Engobe is naturally matte.
-
Engobes can be applied to an unfired shard (that is, to a product that I have just created from clay), followed by firing in the kiln (the product hardens) and then possibly glazing with a transparent glaze (this makes the product shiny), followed by a sharp firing.
- Engobes can also be applied to an overheated shard, the surface will remain velvety. The surface of the engobe is usually overglazed with a transparent glaze and fired to fuse the surface and produce the correct intense colors.

What is a glaze?
Glazes are thin glassy layers on the surface of ceramic products. The glaze has an aesthetic and technical function on the ceramic body. From an aesthetic point of view, it improves the appearance of the product (smoothness, gloss or color of the surface). From a technical point of view, the glaze closes the open porosity of the shard, can increase the mechanical strength of the product, increases resistance to external influences, etc. It is applied to the overheated shard (with the exception of single-fire glazes) and, after drying, is fired to a temperature according to the material and glaze used.
